IN GOLF
"Since the days of the first Californians and the Spanish Land Grants, Rancho San Marcos has played an important part in early California history. Our challenge was to maintain the integrity of this marvelous landscape and, at the same time, provide an environmentally sound and wholesome kind of recreation for the people of
Santa Barbara County."
Robert Trent Jones, Jr.&emdash;course architect
Drawing its inspiration from the rich history of the Santa Ynez River Valley, Rancho San Marcos spectacularly captivates the natural beauty and distinctiveness of its surroundings. Built on the site of a historic ranch, circa 1804, this Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed gem gracefully saddles the natural topography meandering amidst a plethora of ancient oaks, and preserved traces of 19th-century adobe structures and the rugged San Marcos Stagecoach trail. With no pylon or dwelling in sight, a naturally-relaxing experience is delivered from the course's stunning views of the Santa Ynez Mountains and the sky blue waters of nearby Lake Cachuma, often circled by soaring Eagles.

This 6,800 yard, par-71 layout distinguishes itself with a front nine spanning effortlessly across the Valley floor, alongside the Santa Ynez River and past a restored riparian habitat, and historic remnants of the San Marcos horse ranch. The course's signature back nine challenges players with great golf holes including three par 5's and back-to-back par 3's hugging two dramatic plateaus. An elevated tee box on the finishing 18th brings golfers home to the Davy's Stable Café where they can enjoy creative cuisine on the back patio, and pick up a luxurious souvenir in the apparel pro shop. Golfers can hone their skills on Rancho San Marcos' immense 15 acre practice facility consisting of an unlimited ball driving range, chipping green with accompanied sand bunker and large putting green.

River Course at the Alisal is 18 holes of exceptional golf in an exceptionally fine setting. Characterized by spectacular panoramic views, River Course exhibits the relaxing beauty that has drawn many visitors to the Valley over the years. Miles of native landscape and frequent wildlife sightings create a peaceful atmosphere for a casual game of golf.

The course is sensitively designed to provide enjoyment for golfers of all levels.

At 6,830 yards, River Course is challenging, but not punishing. The strategic placement of a variety of hazards rewards length and accuracy without severely penalizing casual and recreational golfers.
